Strong storms in the D.C. area on Wednesday resulted in widespread power outages.

Power has been largely restored in the D.C. region, though several thousand in Northern Virginia are still experiencing outages, following severe thunderstorms on Wednesday.

As of this morning, 2,319 customers in Fairfax County and 1,297 in Arlington are with without power, per the Dominion Power outage map.

Dominion, which serves portions of Virginia, said in a tweet Wednesday that it’s going to take “at least through Thursday night” to restore service to all customers.

According to PowerOutage.US, which tracks power outages across the country, 53 customers in D.C. still do not have electricity restored.

At the height of the outages, nearly 50,000 customers across the D.C. region were impacted by power outages after powerful storms this afternoon.

According to PowerOutage.US, at least 31,000 people in Northern Virginia were without power, with more than 14,000 outages in Fairfax County alone. In Arlington, more than 10,600 customers did not have power around 4:30 p.m., ARLNow reported.

Over 14,500 customers in Anne Arundel, Charles, Frederick, Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties in Maryland were impacted, as were at least 3,700 customers in the District.

The storms resulted in downed trees and wind gusts of at least 60 mph, according to the Washington Post’s Capital Weather Gang. A severe thunderstorm was in effect until 7 p.m., while a flash flood watch is in effect until 11 p.m.
