Update 12:49 p.m.: Power was restored at United Medical Center around 10:14 a.m., according to spokesperson Toya Carmichael, bringing the facility back to 100 percent operational.
The facility experienced a limited power outage beginning at 8:56 p.m last night in the main building of the hospital, Carmichael says, and generators provided necessary power until around 3:40 a.m.
Out of caution, six patients in the ICU were moved to the emergency room (which was not affected by the outage), and five patients were then transferred to other D.C. hospitals — one of whom was COVID-19 positive. The pharmacy and medical office building were not impacted by the outage.
PEPCO replaced the impacted fuses and transformers to restore power later Friday morning, and the hospital has also completed repair of the impacted internal generators.

United Medical Center spokesperson Toya Carmichael says the outage is affecting certain areas of the hospital. She says five ICU patients have been transferred to other D.C. hospitals. Generators are keeping some portions of the facility powered, according to NBC 4, which first reported the news.
According to PEPCO’s power outage map, the facility may have lost power around 4:30 a.m. Friday morning. The map estimates power restoration by 4:00 p.m. this afternoon.
Thunderstorms across the D.C. area left fallen trees, damaged cars, and hundreds without power overnight.
