The Metropolitan Police Department recovered three bodies from the Potomac and Anacostia rivers over the past two days.

MPD’s Harbor Patrol Unit recovered one body on Monday afternoon near the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling shoreline, police told DCist in an emailed statement. Early Tuesday morning, police found a second body in the Potomac River near the Alexandria waterfront. A third body was recovered shortly after noon Tuesday in the Anacostia River along the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling shoreline.

Police did not immediately identify the bodies.

The news comes after three men who were boating on the Potomac went missing on Sunday after falling into the water near Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling. Police identified the men as Mustafa Haidar, 26, Ahmad “Johnny” Noory, 28, and Omid Rabani, who was 23.

Haidar’s father, Yunus Haidar, told the Washington Post on Monday that the three men were friends. “I don’t know what happened,” said Haidar, who lives in Manassas. “I’m heartbroken.”

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, along with other agencies, conducted a water, land, and air search for more than two hours, before transitioning to a recovery operation.
