A grand jury indicted a Prince George’s County police officer Tuesday, on charges including sexual abuse of a minor.

Tristan Thigpen, 35, is also facing charges of third-degree sex offense, second-degree assault, and related charges stemming from an incident that occurred in April, according to a press release from Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy’s office.

In July, Prince George’s County police responded to a report of sexual abuse that allegedly occurred on April 1. Thigpen is accused of sexually abusing, assaulting, and engaging in sexual contact with a minor who was a member of his household at the time, per the release.

Thigpen is currently suspended without pay, according to a separate press release from the Prince George’s County Police Department. At the time of the alleged incident in April, Thigpen, who joined the department in 2006 and was previously assigned the Bureau of Patrol, was already suspended on another matter.

The PGPD suspended Thigpen in 2018 following a DUI arrest in Nevada.

“The fact the allegations against this officer involve a child make them all the more troubling,” Interim Police Chief Hector Velez said in the release. “The officer had already been on suspension when our department was made aware of this allegation. We immediately opened an investigation and brought this case to the State’s Attorney’s Office for possible prosecution.”

If Thigpen is convicted on all charges, he faces up to 35 years in prison. PGPD is asking anyone with relevant information on Thigpen to call the Internal Affairs Division at 301-352-1200.
