A former Montgomery County high school football coach was arrested on charges related to sexual abuse of two players, police said Tuesday.

Christopher Papadopoulos, 26, is accused of committing sexual offenses against two male high schoolers at Thomas S. Wootton High School in Rockville, according to a press release from the Montgomery County Police Department.

At the time of the alleged abuses, the victims played for the school’s football team and Papadopoulos served as an assistant varsity coach, a role he started in 2016. The police department’s Special Victims Investigations Division began an investigation into the allegations in February.

Montgomery County Public Schools did not immediately respond to DCist’s request for comment on the former coach’s employment status.

Police said that Papadopoulos sexually abused and exploited the first victim on multiple occasions, and sexually abused and solicited the second victim. The alleged interactions happened after hours and did not take place on school grounds.

Police served Papadopoulos with an arrest warrant on Monday night, charging him with offenses including sexual abuse of a minor. He was taken to the Central Processing Unit and held on a no-bond status, with a bond review set for Tuesday.

Police are concerned that there may be additional victims of Papadopoulos and are asking anyone who believes they are a victim to call SVID detectives at 240-773-5400.
