FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30

HAUNTED DRIVE-THROUGH: Head about 60 miles north to Cockeysville, Maryland, for a spooky drive-through with the volunteer fire department. This parking lot drive-through will feature villains from everyone’s favorite movies and candy. Families that aren’t comfortable receiving candy at each station can receive a gift bag at the beginning. There will also be a raffle and a fire safety demonstration. (11210 York Rd., Cokeysville, Md., 6 p.m., $20)

A SPARK: When thinking of witch hunts, Salem, Massachusetts, might come to mind. But the persecution of witches started in Europe a century and a half before the Salem witch trials. Join Professor Richard Kieckhefer of Northwestern University, a scholar of the late Middle Ages, for a look into how witch hunts began. He’ll take the audience back in time to 15th century France when a baron was accused of conjuring demons and murdering multiple children. A perfect Profs & Pints virtual session just before Halloween. (7 p.m., $12)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31

DEEP BREATHS: Past Tense Yoga in Mt. Pleasant is putting on a special Halloween-themed class for kids. This outdoor, hour-long class will include a costume show-and-tell as well as simple, child-appropriate yoga moves. There will also be a Monster Mash freeze dance, games, and treats. Space is limited and masks and yoga mats are required. (Location will be sent out after registration, 3 p.m., $15)

BRUNCH OUT: Halloween might be a bit of a bummer this year, but at least there’s a way to laugh about it. A collection of comedians are putting on a free brunch comedy show at Wangari Gardens on Halloween. Bring your own food, mimosas, and blanket to spread out safely across the grass as you listen to comedians sum up just how this year feels. (Wangari Gardens, 12:30 p.m., FREE)

IT’S SHOWTIME: The Black Cat is putting on its first-ever live streamed dance party on Halloween. Their 8th annual “Eighties Mayhem” dance party is Beetlejuice-themed. Come for three hours of 80s bangers and Halloween favorites. Costumes are encouraged and dancing is a must. The stream will be on Twitch. (9 p.m., FREE, donations accepted)

FORGET IT: Celebrate Halloween in a nightmarish year at Pamplona in Clarendon. This anti-Halloween party features socially-distanced tables, a DJ, and cash prizes for the best costume. There are three different sessions throughout the day and night to spread out visitors. We’ve had enough scares this year, right? (Pamplona, Arlington, 4 p.m., 7 p.m., and 10 p.m., $10)

WHO YOU GONNA CALL: Head to the Guinness Open Gate Brewery near Baltimore for a special, moonlit movie night. Their outdoor lawn and beer garden area will be open for a showing of Ghostbusters. Beer and snacks will be available a la carte. Guests are invited to bring their own blankets and must wear masks when moving through the property. (Guiness Open Gate Brewery, Halethorpe, Md., 7:30 p.m., movie is free, beer prices vary)
