PAY TRIBUTE: Commemorate Día de los Muertos at the National Portrait Gallery with three outdoor interactive installations by artists Mas Paz, Guache, and Omar García. Visitors are invited to pay tribute to loved ones by placing photographs and artwork on two altars on the museum’s steps from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., a live, digital painting is being projected onto the museum’s façade to celebrate the Latino community and honor those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. PRAYER VIGIL: For the first time since March, the National Cathedral is opening its doors for a 14-hour prayer vigil on Election Day. All are welcome to stop by for prayer and reflection; face masks are required and political paraphernalia is not allowed. (7 a.m., FREE)

VOTE, VOTE, & WATCH: There isn’t any event more important on Tuesday besides casting your ballot, if you haven’t already taken advantage of the early voting options. It’s also a District tradition to watch the votes roll in at a local watering hole. While the pandemic should limit crowds, there remain socially distant options available to while the night away. Church Hall is hosting a watch party, as are Wunder Garten and Shaw Tavern.

DRAW IT OUT: If you’re in need of a break from election coverage, artist Mo Willems and the National Symphony Orchestra will be doodling the night away.
