It’s December and that means holiday shopping, concerts, and tea with Santa.

FRIDAY DECEMBER 4

DOWNTOWN HOLIDAY MARKET: Knock some gifts off your holiday shopping list by visiting the socially distant “outdoor shopping village.” The annual market will feature art and artisans from across the D.C. area, including many businesses owned by makers of color from the city’s Made in DC program. (F Street NW between 7th and 9th Streets NW, open noon-8 p.m., FREE)

NATIVE CREATIVITY: Begin to recover from the week with Healing through Native Creativity: Artist Conversations 2020 from the National Museum of the American Indian. Although the museum’s annual Native Art Market has been postponed until December 2021, some of the artists from past years have teamed up for a streaming event. Artisans will share stories about their craft, their latest creations, and how they are “[looking] forward to a future of good health and social justice.” Speakers include Allen Aragon (Navajo, pottery & jewelry), Dorothy Grant (Haida, textiles), and Kevin Pourier (Oglala Lakota, carving). (Friday-Sunday, FREE with registration)

SATURDAY DECEMBER 5

KALANIDHI DANCE: In the mid-afternoon, virtually join the Gandhi Memorial Center to learn more about classical South Indian dancing. Audience members are able to converse directly with the dancers … and even learn a few moves. (2:30 p.m., FREE)

VIRTUAL WOLF TRAP: Stay in and still go out. On Saturday, join Wolf Trap by streaming Academy Award-winning artist Darlene Love’s holiday show. The show is made to get you in the holiday spirit — all while keeping its distance. Proceeds from the ticket sales will go to Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. (8 p.m., $35)  

GAY MEN’S CHORUS: Join a sing-a-long from your living room. This year, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., is presenting their holiday show online — and it’s guaranteed to be just as festive as their annual in-person celebrations. Expect new dance numbers, never-seen virtual concerts, songs including “Sleigh Ride” &  “The 12 Rockin’ Days of Christmas,” and GenOUT Youth Chorus. Audiences can viewing the show on-demand through December 20. (7 p.m., $25) 

VIRTUAL WOOLY MAMMOTH: If you’re more in the mood for a play, the District’s theater scene has you covered. On Saturday, PlayCo & Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will begin live, broadcast performances of THIS IS WHO I AM, a new play about family, estrangement, and separation— all told through Zoom. The show follows a father and son (one in Ramallah and one in New York City) as they reunite over a video call to recreate a family recipe together. (8:30 p.m., $15.99 – $30.99)

SUNDAY DECEMBER 6

TEA WITH SANTA: It’s like Santa at the mall, but for 2020. Families are invited to sign up for one of the 30-minute “teas” with Santa where kids can enjoy a holiday-themed storytime and games with the big guy himself. Each participating child will also receive a personalized activity packet ahead of time with a signed photo of Santa. Please note that the 30 min slots are limited to 10 participants, so everyone can interact with Old Saint Nick. (11 a.m., $13-$15)  

WOMEN IN THE ARTS: This Sunday is the National Museum for Women in the Arts’ free Community Day. Reserve a timed ticket for Sunday between noon-5 p.m. to tour the museum for free. Exhibitions include Return to Nature and Betsabeé Romero: Signals of a Long Road Together. Please note that coronavirus precautions are in effect, including required masks and no coat checks. (12 p.m., FREE

BAKERY & MILL TOUR: Level up your dough game without even … kneading to leave your living room. This weekend, the Friends of Peirce Mill are hosting a members-only live Zoom tour via of Shaw’s Seylou Bakery with co-owner and head baker Jonathan Bethony. Learn the whole process: from grinding the locally-grown grains to baking the bread in their hand-built & wood-fired oven. The best part? The first 20 RSVPs will receive a free loaf of bread from the bakery. (4 p.m., $25 to become a member of Friends of Peirce Mill)

YOGA AT THE NATIONAL BUILDING MUSEUM: Live from the Great Hall of the National Building Museum, it’s Sunday Morning Yoga! Join local vinyasa yoga teacher Beth A. Wolfe for an all-levels yoga course via zoom. Stretch, rest, and take care of your body without having to leave your home. (10 a.m., donations appreciated)
