FRIDAY, DECEMBER 25
A CHRISTMAS CAROL: At noon, tune in to WAMU 88.5 for Ford’s Theatre’s radio play adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. The adaption is an hour-long and features local actor Craig Wallace as Ebenezer Scrooge and Murray Horwitz (host of WAMU’s The Big Broadcast) as the narrator. If you miss the show on Christmas, the audio will be available to stream on Ford’s Theatre’s website until January 1. (12 p.m. – 1 p.m., FREE)
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE: Make it a twin bill of Christmas radio plays by tuning into WERA 96.7 for the Arlington Players’ adaptation of the 1946 classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” The story tells of a man on the brink before learning the importance of his life. This adaptation condenses the story but perceives the most memorable scenes and dialogue from the film. (6 p.m., FREE, donations welcomed)
NATIONAL CHRISTMAS TREE: Head over to the White House to experience the National Christmas Tree before the Pennsylvania evergreen leaves the District (you have until New Year’s Day). The ornaments on the tree represent each of the 50 states, the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia. The attraction is open to visitors from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — just make sure to wear a mask and social distance. You can catch the lights turning on around sunset. (10 a.m. – 10 p.m., FREE)
MILLIONS OF LIGHTS: Take a drive to Watkins Regional Park in Prince George’s County for a 54-foot LED musical tree. The county’s annual “Festival of Lights” is drive-thru only this year. There’s the aforementioned very tall musical tree, 2.5 million lights, and plenty of reindeer to go around. It’s recommended to arrive prior to 6 p.m. to avoid long lines. (301 Watkins Park Drive, Upper Marlboro, MD, 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., $8 per car)

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 26
KWANZAA CELEBRATION: To mark the first day of Kwanzaa, join Creative Suitland Arts Center’s virtual Kwanzaa Celebration starting just before sunset. It is the Center’s second annual event — and although this year’s rendition will be online, it promises to be just as festive. The program will be hosted by Stan “Substantial” Robinson and Brother Victorious, and it features everything from storytelling to musical performances — all live-streamed to the comfort of your home. (5 p.m. – 7 p.m., $1, donations encouraged)
NEPTUNE POP-UP: Neptune Room’s bar is still closed — but in the interim, they have repurposed their space to serve as a weekly pop-up market. On Saturday, head over to the Brightwood Park staple to browse vintage, thrift, and holiday finds (including vintage home goods, vinyl records, and clothes). The market is restocked weekly — and will be open every Saturday and Sunday for the foreseeable future. To-go drinks are be available. (5405 Georgia Ave NW, Washington, D.C., 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
DANCE THE 90S AWAY: Join local musician David Thong as he plays 90s alt rock hits at a free, outdoor show at the State Theater in Alexandria. Weezer, Red Hot Chili Pepper, and No Doubt fans unite! Very limited capacity and social distancing required. All ages show, but highly recommended to arrive early. (220 N Washington Street, Falls Church, VA, 6 p.m., FREE)

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 27
SHOWTIME POP-UP: If you go to Neptune Room’s craft market on Saturday, head over to Showtime bar on Sunday. The Bloomingdale’s classic dive bar is holding a pop-up market (affectionately named “Showtime & Son”) every weekend. Show up to treasure hunt through vinyl records, vintage clothes, and unique pieces of art. (113 Rhode Island Ave, NW, Washington, D.C.; 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
GARDENING 101: If you’re ready to improve your green thumb, sign up for Cultivate the City’s beginner gardening class. The course focuses on indoor and container-based gardening (think: growing plants in pots versus in the ground) — and it will even teach you how to set up a sub-terrain irrigated planter so your budding goods can remain watered even if you’re on vacation. Participants can choose to take the course with their own materials – or they can purchase a beginner herb kit to get you started. (1 p.m. – 2 p.m.; $10 – $20)
