Wednesday’s inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris was a rare moment for D.C. style, from Michelle Obama’s belt to Michelle Obama’s hair. But amid the sea of masks and suits, who’s that in attendance, looking like he’s waiting in line at the DMV?

Why it’s Senator Bernie Sanders, who did NOT get the fashion memo the other male politicians did about wearing their plainest black coats with their plainest black masks.

In fact, Sanders appeared to be the only politico in attendance properly dressed for the 28 mph winds and light snow flurries that fell on the ceremony (ok, except for maybe Janet Yellen). His cozy mittens, according to Buzzfeed reporter Ruby Cramer, were a gift from his Vermont constituent Jen Ellis, a teacher who made them from old wool sweaters and recycled water bottles.

The inauguration itself being, well … pretty boring, the internet far and wide had plenty of time to turn this scene into a meme.

Naturally, our own local Phillips Collection took the opportunity to point out their famous artworks:

While radio station DC 101 reminded us it’s been too long since we saw a show at the 9:30 Club.

Speaking of music, did we all know Minor Threat had another famous member?

Next on Bernie’s to-do list: park in line for D.C.’s most popular bagels.

Or one of its most sought-after dinner reservations:

He also stopped by Sixth & I Historic Synagogue:

With the ceremony over, how do we think Bernie got home? Perhaps by Capital Bikeshare?

Or Metro?

And of course, the requisite statehood reminder:

And if Senator Sanders wants to chat with a D.C. celebrity, he knows who to call.
