ART GALLERY: Start off your weekend by visiting the Zenith Gallery in downtown D.C. their new exhibit, Black History is American History. The show opened this past Monday — the first day of Black History Month — to celebrate Black culture from in and out of the United States. HAIKU FOR YOU: This is the last weekend to enter the Golden Haiku poetry contest. On Friday, get your creative juices flowing by taking a walk through the Golden Triangle area of downtown, taking in your surroundings, and then submitting a haiku online around the theme of “Daydreams and Musings.” Winners will see their entries on colored signs in the tree boxes throughout the Golden Triangle neighborhood — with the top submissions also receiving cash prizes. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES: It’s the most wonderful time of the year: Girl Scout cookie season. On Friday, head to Central Place Plaza in Northern Virginia for a Girl Scout Cookie Sale to purchase your winter stock of Thin Mints, Do-si-dos, and Tagalongs. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6
STORYTELLING: On Saturday, tune in to the next session of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian’s Art of Storytelling series. This event will feature Robert Lewis of the Cherokee Nation as he shares stories about his traditional culture. The program will be streamed on YouTube with real-time captioning. HAIKU WORKSHOP: This weekend, join Smith Center for Healing and the Arts for their interactive virtual event, Winter Haiku and Short Nature Poems: Moving Toward the Light about focusing on the small details of winter. The workshop will be led by Takoma Park Poet Laureate Kathleen O’Toole and no prior poetry experience is required. (10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.; FREE with $15 donations encouraged)
DUPONT POP-UP: This Saturday, visit the Dupont Circle Pop-up event to buy all the Valentine’s Day presents you need for your friends or significant others (or exes, honestly, it’s up to you). Shoppers can expect more than 40 local vendors and artisans in the Dupont Underground and in front of stores across the neighborhood. (Dupont Circle Neighborhood, Washington, D.C.; 12 p.m.-5 p.m.)
BLACKNESS & PROTEST: On Saturday, tune in to the Anacostia Community Museum’s event, Men of Change: Taking it to the Streets Opening Panel Discussion with CNN Correspondent Omar Jimenez. The protests of last summer highlighted some of the inequalities and inequities Black communities already knew existed. In response, this event series is designed to make space for Black men “to have agency over their own multifaceted narratives that shift paradigms and dismantle negative racial tropes.” (1 p.m.-2 p.m.; FREE)

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7
BREAD FURST x PIZZA: On Super Bowl Sunday, Van Ness bakery Bread Furst is hosting a pop-up with Alfredo’s Pizza Cafe. Load up their takeout menu for game day grub including pizzas, Philadelphia cheesesteaks, wings, and nachos. (Bread Furst; 2 p.m.-9 p.m., a la carte)
