Amanda Gorman, whose poetry reading at President Joe Biden’s inauguration captivated millions, now has her own mural in D.C.

A new depiction of the National Youth Poet Laureate from Los Angeles, painted by artist Kaliq Crosby, now covers the side of a rowhouse at 1608 17th St. NW.

The building, near Dupont Circle, is the site of the New Washington Land Company, a real estate management firm. The company reportedly commissioned the mural from Crosby, who began working on it roughly two weeks ago, according to his Facebook page.

The mural depicts Gorman reading her original poem, “The Hill We Climb,” during Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ January inauguration ceremony. The 23-year-old has since become a national icon, with two books expected to publish this year. Gorman was the youngest poet ever to read at a presidential inauguration.

Crosby, who specializes in airbrushing, painted a mural depicting the founders of Lee’s Flower Shop on U Street in 2017. Among other projects, he also completed a depiction of lilies near the intersection of 13th Street and Park Road NW in Columbia Heights that replaced an older mural by artist Alicia Cosnahan.

Artists in Palm Springs and San Francisco also recently painted murals of Gorman.
