FRIDAY APRIL 2
LANGUAGE REVIVAL: On Friday, join the Smithsonian Institution for a conversation on languages and how we revive them. The panel, A Discussion on Language Revitalization, is a part of the Mother Tongue Film Festival 2021 and will be moderated by Smithsonian curator Mary Linn. ASL interpretations and real-time captioning will be available. (1 p.m.-2 p.m.; FREE)
LIGHT INSTALLATION: Start your weekend with a light installation at the Long Bridge Park Esplanade in Arlington. Eternal Sundown is created to look “like a setting sun over a city through 140 fluorescent lights in powerful colors.” The art piece was created by the Copenhagen-based artist Mads Vegas. (Long Bridge Park; through April 11; FREE)
RUPAUL & LOCAL BREWS: Red Bear Brewing is back with their screenings of RuPaul’s Drag Race. The NoMa brewery will show the episode on their giant screen and televisions with their slate of brews, cocktails, and food available for purchase. (Red Bear Brewing Co.; 8 p.m.-9 p.m.)
Sponsored FILM FESTIVAL: Keeping an independent spirit alive in the nation’s capital, the 22nd DC Independent Film Festival is back for 10 days featuring a combined virtual and in-person program of films, conversations and seminars and celebrating imagination, promoting talent, and exploring filmmaking. (Locations vary. Now through April 8. $12-$22.)

SATURDAY APRIL 3
BLOSSOMS & BASEBALL: Does anything mark spring in D.C. like cherry blossoms and baseball? This weekend, head to the Capitol Riverfront for a socially distant drive-in movie pop up. The feature film this Saturday will be A League of Their Own and proceeds from the event go to Living Classrooms. (The Stacks; 7:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.; $20 per car)
HOPPY EASTER: On Saturday, The Station at Riverdale Park is celebrating Easter with postcards and Easter baskets! Participants are asked to pre-register, download their Easter-themed postcard, and then drop it off at the “Bunny’s mailbox” at Riverdale Park. The first 50 registered guests receive a gift bag — but please note that the event is best suited for ages 3-10 (sorry, adults). (The Station At Riverdale Park; 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; FREE)
GREEN DAY: Not the band, but more eco-friendly. This weekend, get (metaphorically) green by helping the Rock Creek Conservancy with their Extreme Cleanup at Peirce Mill. At the event, volunteers join the Alice Ferguson Foundation, National Park Service, and Stream Team Leader Paul Gabarino to help clean up trash and protect our local green spaces. (Peirce Mill; 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; FREE)
ROOFTOP LOUNGE: This Saturday, Hedy’s Rooftop opens for the first time at Hotel Zena. The outdoor bar pays tribute to Hedy Lamarr, the actress, inventor and film producer best-known for her patents that paved the way for modern-day Bluetooth technology (yes, really). (Hotel Zena; 5 p.m.-12 a.m.)

SUNDAY APRIL 4
ART IN BLOOM: Yes, many of the District’s go-to blossom spots are limited this year due to coronavirus, but there are still ways to celebrate the best time of the year. On Sunday, go on a self-guided tour/treasure hunt to find some of the 26 giant blossom sculptures across the region. If you don’t feel like traveling far, use the National Cherry Blossom Festival’s map feature to find the sculptures nearest you. (Various locations; FREE)
SUNRISE PHOTO: On Sunday, join Meadowlark Botanical Gardens in Northern Virginia for a sunrise photo safari. Participants get to explore the grounds in the “premium golden hour light” before the venue opens to all visitors. If you are new to photography, be sure to stick around at the beginning of the event for an optional workshop on photography tips and techniques. (Meadowlark Botanical Gardens; 6 a.m.-9 a.m.; $25)
IMPERFECTO: On Sunday, try Enrique Limardo’s latest restaurant Imperfecto — which brings a taste of Latin American and Mediterranean cuisines. The physical restaurant space is inspired by Greek design, complete with white arches and cyan blue walls. Please note that takeout and delivery are not currently being offered; reservations are available for limited indoor seating here. (Imperfecto; 5 p.m.-11 p.m.)
This post has been updated to include a sponsored event from the DC Independent Film Festival.
