MONDAY, APRIL 12

LUNCH WITH A CURATOR: Learn all about the art of miniature houses with a virtual conversation with a curator from the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley in Winchester, Va. In this Smithsonian Associates convo, Elizabeth Lay will share how the collection of 14 houses and rooms came to be curated, along with close-up images of the nearly 4,000 objects inside. ART AUCTION: Support local art students at UDC’s inaugural event with bids done virtually. Attendees can bid online on students’ artwork leading up to the auction, with options ranging from landscapes to abstracts to portraiture. All proceeds benefit the UDC Student Emergency Assistance Fund. (7 p.m., $30 suggested donation)

SNEAK PEEK: Get a first look at Dumbarton House’s newest exhibit, Power in Preservation, which features 10 extraordinary women historic preservationists. The virtual event will feature a 30-minute tour of the exhibit along with a Q&A session. (4 p.m., FREE)

CELEBRATORY POETRY: Celebrate The Phillips Collection’s upcoming centennial and subsequent exhibition, Seeing Differently: The Phillips Collects for a New Century, with a bit of virtual poetry. In a pre-recorded performance, poets Monica Sok and Michael Collier will read their works that highlight art featured in the exhibit, followed by a live discussion. (6:30 p.m. $5 minimum price)

CONEY CAROUSEL: Learn all about carousel styles in this virtual talk from Glen Echo Park featuring Barbara Fahs Charles. The event will recount why Glen Echo originally featured a Coney Island carousel with horses and chariots from W.F. Mangels, and the differences between Mangels and the current Philadelphia style carousel’s manufacturer. (7:30 p.m., FREE)

PARK LOVERS ONLY: Tune into the first-ever virtual Salute to the Parks from the National Parks Conservation Association. The event features Ted Danson and Ken Burns, here to talk all about the importance of the parks, with a performance from Rozzi and a silent auction to end the night. Plus, your ticket comes with a year-long National Parks Conservation Association membership. (7:30 p.m., $25)

ARTS AND CRAFTS: Grab some duct tape and other materials around the house for a crafting happy hour with the Smithsonian American Art Museum. This event features craft master Gloria Kenyon and her expertise on how to make a tote bag with only duct tape, a plastic bag, and scissors. (7 p.m., FREE)
