POP UP FOOD: Swing by the Station at Riverdale Park in Maryland for their Curbside Cookout. On Friday, the pop-up series will feature Chinese food from Dǎbāo 打包, Trinidadian food from Kalu’s, and “piping hot, crispy, crunchy, well-seasoned, melt-in-your-mouth fried chicken” from Saint Crispy’s. FREER GALLERY: This weekend, the Freer Gallery of Art opens for the first time since closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Notably, the painting “Breaking Waves” from Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai (best-known for his iconic woodblock print, “Great Wave off Kanagawa”) will be on display. Timed passes will not be required. Note that the museum’s counterpart, the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, will be closed until later this fall. CHAMBER MUSIC: On Friday evening, there’s music to be heard in Arlington. Start your weekend with 9th Street Chamber Music to listen to performances, enter a raffle (that includes a chance for season tickets, a ukulele, and other prizes), and nom on 7 Starr Wings. PARKSIDE MOVIE NIGHT: Pull up your chair and blanket for an outdoor movie night featuring Disney’s Soul. The show will begin at 7:00 p.m., but participants are encouraged to show up early to get a spot on the grass and buy concessions before the movie begins. JUST ARTS: Start your weekend by tuning into the first half of the Olney Theatre Center’s Just Arts, a weekend-long live performance curated by Kevin McAllister. The event centers the Center’s social justice work, and will focus on “heritage, history, and the future.” Shows will occur in-person at the Root Family Stage on Friday and Saturday, followed by a virtual option on Sunday. WOLF PACK: On Friday, DC9 Nightclub is hosting Azure Wolf — the “female-fronted indie rock band with an ethereal twist […] and strong lyrical focus with dark and deep vibes that will leave your soul tingling.” The group formed in February 2020 in Winchester and will perform with Fix Your Hearts band. MAGIC COMEDY: It’s the best of both worlds. On Saturday, head to the Mayflower Hotel for a music act that is also a comedy show. ‘The Magic Duel’ earns 5-stars on Yelp and TripAdvisor, and has run continuously at the Mayflower since 2016. REEL ‘EM IN: This weekend, National Harbor is hosting a bass fishing competition that will feature live music, inflatables and family-friendly games, and of course, a pop-up Bass Pro Shop. The event is the regional qualifier for Bass Pro Shop’s US Open National Bass Fishing Amateur Team Championships. (10:00 a.m.; 165 Waterfront Street, National Harbor, MD; FREE)

FOOD & FITNESS: It’s endorphin time. On Saturday, join one of Parkside Food & Fitness Days for food, local vendors — and exercise by Competitive by Nature. ANACOSTIA WALKING TOUR: Get some fresh air on Sunday by joining DC By Foot for a free walking tour through Anacostia. The tour will examine Anacostia’s history and explore the ways it has (and hasn’t) changed since the mid-1800s. Tour-goers can expect to learn more about the Anacostia River, 19th century homes, and historic churches. Please note that registration is required.
