Exactly a month after the Wizards said goodbye to head coach Scott Brooks after his contract expired — leading long-suffering fans to rejoice — the organization has hired a new head coach, Wes Unseld Jr.

Unnamed sources close to the organization told WUSA9 that the team considered Milwaukee Bucks assistant Darvin Ham and Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Sam Cassell, but ultimately offered the job to Unseld Jr.

Unseld Jr. is a popular name among Wizards nation — his father, the late Wes Unseld Sr., was a Washington Bullets legend and Hall of Fame center who helped the team win its only championship. He passed away last year.

A respected assistant coach for the Nuggets, Unseld Jr. started his coaching career as a scout for the Wizards in 1997 under his father, who was general manager at the time, and he became an assistant coach for the team in 2005. After 15 years in Washington, he worked with the Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic.

Fan reactions to the news have been overwhelmingly positive so far:
