EMO V. PUNK: To kick off the weekend, Black Cat is hosting the dance party “TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS: SOCIALLY AWKWARD EDITION.” Described as an “Emo versus Punk” event, the party will feature jams from The All-American Rejects to Yellowcard and everything in between. STORYTIME: On Saturday, join a Play And Thrive DC for a storytime reading of I Got the Rhythm by Connie Schofield-Morrison . The family-friendly is best suited for children ages 2-5, and will also feature a STEAM activity and a musical performance. (Martha’s Table; 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; FREE)
BANDS & BREWS: On Saturday, BallstonGives is hosting “Bands and Brews on the Boulevard”. Expect a street fair complete with performances from six musical acts. The event is free, but pre-sale bar tickets are available. (Wilson Boulevard; 11 a.m.-8 p.m.; FREE)
CORNHOLE: On Saturday, head to Bardo Brewing for the 10th Annual Cornhole Tournament fundraiser. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team — but also to the team with the most creative name. If cornhole or creativity aren’t your strong suit, participants will also have the chance to win raffles throughout the afternoon. (Bardo Brewing; 1 p.m.-4 p.m.; $25 per team)
CHRISTMAS: Tis the season: At a secret location, comedy organizers Living Room Show DC are hosting their Christmas in July Outdoor Comedy Show.” This Christmas-themed outdoor comedy show is BYOB and picnic blankets are recommended. HEAVYWEIGHTS COMEDY: Head to Lost Origins Gallery this Saturday for The Heavyweights Comedy Show: Summer Slam Series XXI. This stand-Uup comedy showcase will feature Rahmein Mostafavi (as seen on FOX and PBS) and is BYOB. (Lost Origins Gallery; 7:30 p.m.; $10)
TEQUILA: This weekend, head to Morris American Bar in Shaw to celebrate Tequila Day by ranking celebrity tequilas against each other (for context, launching distilled beverage brands is what famous people do now). UNDERGROUND: Unwind on Sunday by visiting Silver Lyan, one of the latest bars in District to reopen after temporarily closing during the pandemic. The underground cocktail bar is located in an old bank vault int he lower level of Riggs Washington DC. (Silver Lyan; 5 p.m.-onwards)
JAZZ: End your weekend on a good note by streaming the Smithsonian’s Jazz Beyond Borders event. This performance from the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra was recorded in 2019 from the Tokyo International Forum. The concert is sponsored by the American History Museum and the Smithsonian Associates, and can be found on free on Smithsonian’s YouTube page. (FREE)
