FRIDAY AUGUST 13
PREMIERE NIGHT: On Friday, join Perisphere Theater for the regional premiere of Time Is On Our Side, the award-winning play by former Elle writer R. Eric Thomas. The play follows the story of two hosts of a “wildly unpopular” podcast, as they explore Philadelphia’s history through a queer, intersectional lens. The theater is offering half-price tickets for essential frontline workers. (Silver Spring Black Box Theatre; through Aug. 28; $16-$32)
CAMP PERFORMANCE: Start your weekend by supporting young camp-goers (ages 5-13) as they present their performance about environmentalism, “A Brave New World: Going Green.” The campers are from the two-week music and arts summer camp at All Souls Church. (1500 Harvard Street NW; 2 p.m.; FREE)
HORROR BOOK SWAP: It’s going to be Friday the 13th — and what better way to mark the occasion by attending a True Crime and Horror Book Swap. The event is hosted by local podcast Recommend If You Like. Bringing a book to swap is not mandatory, but the event organizers are asking participants to RSVP so they know how many extra books to bring. (Slash Run; 4 p.m.-7 p.m.; FREE)
AFRICAN DIASPORA FILM: Friday is the launch of the 14th African Diaspora International Film Festival. The streamable festival, put on in partnership with Africa World Now Project, will include works from 18 different countries — and opens with The Sleeping Negro by director Skinner Myers. (7 p.m.; $15-$95)
MORE: The Archives: A Reggae Tribute to Gil Scott-Heron (The Hamilton Live; 6:30 p.m. doors; $25.00); Pay Attention To Us (The Wonderland Ballroom; 6 p.m.; $10-$15).

SATURDAY AUGUST 14
HIIT & BREW: Get your blood moving with DC Brau for an outdoor HIIT workout. The local brewery is hosting a free interval training working, open to participants of all fitness levels. DC Brau’s beer garden will open just as the workout ends — so participants can order a pint for their recovery. (DC Brau Brewing Company; 11 a.m.; FREE)
HERE WE GO AGAIN!: This Saturday, the Fairfax Library Foundation is hosting an outdoor screening of Mamma Mia! at the Chantilly Regional Library. The show will also include a “mini library fair” and food trucks. (Chantilly Regional Library; 6:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m.; $7 individual, $20 for group of 4)
SAKE LAUNCH: On Saturday, head to the Kennedy Center for the launch of Smoothsail, a new sparkling sake from singer Jay Sean. The launch is taking place as part of the HEIST Summer Series (the pop-up concerts on the Kennedy Center rooftop). (The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; 9 p.m.; Tables start at $400/six people)

SUNDAY AUGUST 15
SAUSAGE FEST: We promise we didn’t come up with the name, but this weekend, Wunder Garten is hosting a two-day Sausage Fest. The event includes vegetarian and expectedly non-vegetarian options. On Sunday party-goers can also expect a Yappy Hour (pups encouraged), live music from artist Chasing Autumn, and Kiki Drag Bingo. (Wunder Garten; 12 p.m.-11 p.m., also Sunday, free entry)
FAMILY BLOCK PARTY: Close out the weekend with the Lane Social Club, by celebrating Ivy City’s new mural at their outdoor block and patio party. The family-friendly bash also includes treats from Ice Cream Jubilee, mini family photoshoot sessions, foursquare games, and more. (The Lane Social Club; time slots at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.; $20 per child for non-members)
SUNDAY SING-ALONGS: On Sunday, Park View market is coming back to Hook Hall… and depending on when you get there, you can join a sing-along too. At 10:30 a.m., the market will host the Kids’ Singalong with Corinne from Crescendo Communications. After that, back to shopping. (Hook Hall, 10:30 a.m.-11 a.m.; FREE)
This post has been updated to correct the entrance price for the REACH sake launch.
