Yes, you read that right. The Washington Monument will be open again to the public this weekend, after a lightning strike earlier this month forced it to close.
Visitors will be able to book timed entry passes starting Saturday, Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. Masks are required for everyone inside the monument, regardless of vaccination status.

The monument was hit by a dramatic bolt of lightning on Aug. 15, and has been closed ever since.

The electrical shock damaged the monument’s electronic access system. The National Park Service has been working to get the parts needed for the repair ever since — and they finally arrived Wednesday.
The Aug. 15 storm damage came just a month after the monument reopened to the public after being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic for six months.
Here’s hoping the monument catches a break from the universe for the foreseeable future.
