FOOD RECOVERY WEEK: Manna Food Center’s Community Food Rescue and the DC Food Recovery Working Group are combining forces again to co-host DMV Food Recovery Week, full of events with local chefs and businesses all about reducing food waste. On Monday, tune into a virtual event all about home composting at 9 a.m., or a 5 p.m. session on how to handle recovered food. Admission to each event requires a $5 donation to Central Kitchen. WELLNESS IN THE PARK: Newly renovated and reopened Franklin Park is hosting a wellness in the park series throughout the month of October, including Monday evening yoga on the west lawn. The outdoor class includes detailed verbal instructions, and is friendly to all levels with modifications and challenging poses. Head to the park on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. for a meditation session, too. (Franklin Park, 6 p.m., FREE)
ARCHITECTURE WALK: Enjoy an overview of a short-lived but influential architectural movement and its impact on D.C. in this virtual walking tour with Washington Walks, Deane Madsen, the founder of a brutalism appreciation society and architectural photographer, will present the tour. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 5
VIRTUAL POETRY: Tune in for a virtual poetry reading event from the Folger Shakespeare Library. Poets Diane Seuss and t’ai freedom ford use a sonnet form that is more than 400 years old to create an explosive, fourteen-line package. The reading will be followed by a moderated conversation. COOKBOOK TALK: Join award-winning actor Stanley Tucci and cookbook author Ina Garten for a Smithsonian Associates streaming event all about food. Tucci and Garten will discuss their favorite food memories and Tucci’s recent CNN series, Searching for Italy. (8 p.m., $45)

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 6
TOUR AND GAMES: Join DC Design Tours and the Woodrow Wilson House for a Dupont Circle neighborhood walking tour and vintage game night. Start the night with a one-hour guided walk exploring the Gilded Age mansions and scandals of Dupont. The tour concludes at the Woodrow Wilson House, where snacks, drinks, and games from the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s wait. (Dupont Circle, 5:30 p.m., $35)
DRIVE-IN BENEFIT: Support the Woodley House, a local organization that supports people living with mental illness, with a drive-in movie benefit at Union Market, featuring the hit Crazy Rich Asians. The master of ceremonies, CNN correspondent Dana Bash, will lead the night where top supporters can enjoy car-hop-style dinners and all attendees get popcorn. PERFECT LIARS CLUB: Head to the Bier Baron Tavern for one of D.C.’s hottest storytelling shows where four people tell original stories, but only three are true. GARDEN FEST: GOODProjects and the Southwest BID are kicking off their “peace gardens” with SW Garden Fest. Head to the center for an afternoon of fun outdoor activities celebrating community space. Make your own bracelet to remind you of breathing techniques, or enjoy mindful meditation, DIY flower plating, or workouts. A battle of the gardens DJ event will wrap up the day at 6 p.m. The three peace gardens around Southwest D.C. are meant to be places for quiet contemplation and community service. COMEDY SHOW: D.C.’s own Metro-themed bar hosts Laugh Tracks, a night of free comedy produced by Four Corners Entertainment. Enjoy 10 of the area’s most talented comics and grab a cocktail from the bar. Seating is first come, first served. (Metrobar, 7 p.m., free entry)
IN-PERSON EXHIBIT: Be one of the first to experience the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery’s latest exhibition: Sargent, Whistler, and Venetian Glass: American Artists and the Magic of Murano. The highly anticipated exhibit includes more than 140 objects, including art from the Venetian glass revival of the nineteenth century and American pieces.
