Virginia voters will soon choose a governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general, as well as all statewide delegates in the General Assembly.
As one of just two states holding major statewide elections in off-off voting years, Virginia is also seen as a “bellwether” ahead of next year’s national midterm elections.
At the top of the ticket, polls show a tight race between Democrat Terry McAuliffe and Republican Glenn Youngkin. Races for lieutenant governor, attorney general and many seats in the House of Delegates are also close contests. Candidates differ on the economy, taxes, pandemic response/vaccine mandates, policing, unions, and a range of hot-button social issues, including what’s taught in schools and abortion.
As WAMU/DCist prepares to cover the last few weeks before this important election, we need your help. Virginia voters: please take this 5-minute survey and tell us what’s on your mind.
