SAVORY ICE CREAM: This is for real. Friday is the first day of Ice Cream Jubilee’s Thanksgiving-themed tasting flight. Each taster includes four mini scoops of each flavor: Honey Sage Stuffing (sage, rosemary, and cornbread); Black Pepper Bacon (spicy black pepper, maple, hickory smoke), Apple Butter Oatmeal Cookie (think: apple pie a la mode ); Sticky Toffee Pudding (spiced dates, brown sugar, candied toffee). You can walk up to any location and request a flight, but buying a ticket ensures your scoops won’t be sold out. (Ice Cream Jubilee locations; through Nov. 28; $6 – $12).
A DIFFERENT KIND OF BUFFALO: On Friday, the Hamilton Live is hosting the Donna the Buffalo, known for their original and cover songs ranging from zydeco to bluegrass. Both seated and standing tickets are available. Please note that the venue requires proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours old. MADAMS AND MISTRESSES: Brush up on your District history by attending a walking tour focused on the rise of prostitution in the District after the Civil War. The tour starts in front of the Willard Intercontinental Hotel before going down Pennsylvania Avenue and ending at the corner of 4th and Independence SW. Familiarize yourself with the former red light district and boarding houses that used to dot the downtown. (Willard Intercontinental Hotel; 7:00 p.m.; $25)
FLAMENCO: On Friday, GALA Hispanic Theatre is hosting the XVII Fuego Flamenco Festival. This weekend’s performance features local dancer Edwin Aparicio, in a restaging of his autobiographical piece Salvador (Savior). BRISKET: Unwind this weekend by attending Hatoba DC and Bark BBQ’s first-ever brisket collaboration. Attendees will be able to enjoy Smoked Brisket Ramen (for real) or a plate lunch of smoked brisket with happy hour cocktails. Supplies are limited, so make it an early lunch. BORDER WALL: On Saturday, the National Building Museum is unveiling its latest exhibition: The Wall/El Muro: What is a Border Wall?. The multi-media show examines “the role of design, architecture, planning and engineering in today’s border issues and challenges, as well as the border wall’s many impacts,” per curators. Both Spanish and English presentations are available. (National Building Museum; 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; $7 – $10)
NIGHT MARKET: This Saturday, plan to stop by the REDEYE Night Market, an open-air night market from No Kings Collective and Events DC, stretching down Pennsylvania Ave. The event will feature local chefs and artists celebrating Asian cuisine — and will be hosting D.C.’s favorite vendors, from Anju to Bun’d Up to Sweets by Caroline. SYMPHONY: Close out your weekend with the Atlas Performing Arts Center in Northeast. On Sunday, the venue is opening their season (titled, Who Are We, D.C.?) with Carlos Simon’s Elegy, A Cry from the Grave. The musical performance will be followed by other selected pieces.
