TURKEY TROT: Start off your Thanksgiving Day by supporting So Others Might Eat at their 20th annual Trot for Hunger 5K.  Participants can choose between attending the festivities in-person or virtually. Proceeds from the event are used to provide food, housing, access to health care, and employment training for residents across the region. TREASURE HUNT: On Thursday, head to the O Street Museum for a self-guided tour and treasure hunt for “Thanksgiving-themed gems.” Museum goers will be able to explore more than 100 rooms containing 80 secret doors using a Thanksgiving hunt clue sheet. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 26

ICE ICE MAYBE: Skate into the holiday season on Friday by heading to the ice skating rink at Gaylord National Resort at the National Harbor. If that’s not your thing, don’t worry: A gingerbread decorating corner, photos with (masked) Santa, and a kid-friendly mini luge are among the festive options available starting this weekend. ANGRY INCH: On Friday, head to Olney Theatre Center for the first night of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. The “revolutionary punk-rock sensation” welcomes Mason Alexander Park (who also stars in Netflix’s Cowboy Bebop) as Hedwig. Tickets for opening night are running out fast — but if you miss them you can still catch additional performances through January 2. (Olney Theatre Center; 8:00 p.m.; $74+)

ENCHANTED: Starting this Friday, Nationals Park is turning into a winter wonderland. Enchant Christmas is coming back to the District with a new, light filled experience. Event-goers can expect a 100 ft. animated tree, an ice skating trail, photos with Santa, and holiday drinks and treats for the whole family. (Nationals Park; Times Vary; $29+)

MORGAN JAMES: This weekend, head to City Winery DC for Morgan James’ “A Very Magnetic Christmas.” The New York based vocalist’s new holiday album is packed with Christmas standards to kick off the season. Guests are asked to provide a proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for entry. (City Wintery DC; 6:00 p.m. doors, 8:00 p.m. show; $25+)

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27

JINGLE JOURNEY: On Saturday, Arts on the Horizon is kicking off its  “nonverbal scavenger hunt production” for kids (recommended ages 3 to 6 years) and family members through the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria. Here’s the deal: After registration, participants will be emailed the first clue and the scavenger hunt map. Solve each clue to reach a “sensory surprise.” Participants have through December 31 to complete the quest. (Del Ray Neighborhood; Self-guided; FREE)

SMALL BIZ SATURDAY: Just in time for your holiday shopping, Brookland Arts Walk is hosting an event for Small Business Saturday. If you pick up a “passport” from any open studio along the walk (and then collect stamps from at least six different shops), you get a chance to win a basket of holiday gifts. HARLEM RENAISSANCE, DC: Take a walking tour through U Street this weekend to learn more about the writers, poets, and musicians who defined the Harlem Renaissance era in D.C. VIRTUAL CONCERT: Unwind on Saturday by tuning into Jazz@Wesley’s new concert series, Virtually Yours. The performance is hosted by the Wesley Campus of National United Methodist Church and this weekend will feature Bobby Felder, former Director of Instrumental Music at the University of D.C.
