D.C. Ward 7 Councilmember Vincent Gray is recovering from a stroke he experienced over the weekend, according to aides.
Gray, 79, developed bronchitis last week and checked himself into a hospital. After being admitted, he had a mild stroke, according to a statement his office released late Monday. The former D.C. mayor had been complaining of a persistent cough and tested negative for the coronavirus, reporter Tom Sherwood tweeted.
Gray was feeling well as of Monday night, according to aides. He “worked on Ward 7 redistricting issues and other Council business from the hospital,” the statement says. “The Councilmember is upbeat and eager to return home and to the office.”
Gray will not attend Tuesday’s D.C. Council session. Lawmakers are expected to discuss redistricting that would affect his ward.
