AZIZ ANSARI: On Friday, comic Aziz Ansari will be performing a stand-up (and phone-free) event at the Anthem as part of his “Last Minute Tour.” Before the show begins, all event-goers will be asked to secure their phones in individual pouches that can be opened at the end of the show. DANCE PERFORMANCE: On Saturday, Dance Place is hosting Britta Joy Peterson’s performance “And Now, Hold Me.” The show is an “unflinchingly tender and unfailingly tenacious duet [that] teases apart the relationship between self and space by using performance as means to couple the living in—and holding of—fleshy bodies and social spheres.” (Dance Place; 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.; Pay What You Can Pricing)
ART ONLINE: Hands-on art (but make it remote). This Saturday, the Smithsonian’s Asian Art Museum and American Art Museum is hosting an online workshop for children (recommended ages three to eight years old) to discover what happens to art in changing temperatures. FAMILY NIGHT HIKE: The whole family is invited to explore the great outdoors in Potomac Overlook Park. On Saturday, the park is hosting a “Night Hike and Campfire” where participants will learn about the nocturnal wildlife in our own backyards. Please note that children must be accompanied by adult. PERCUSSION WORKSHOP: Is learning a new skill one of your New Year’s resolutions? If so, head to College Park this weekend to join a class with samba master percussionist André Coelho. Participants will be introduced to the basics of Brazilian percussion instruments, learn some rhythms, and round the day out with a jam session. The event is free and hosted by EducArte. CORDUROY PLAY: This Saturday, bring your family to Imagination Stage in Bethesda for a performance of Corduroy — the play based on the Corduroy and A Pocket for Corduroy books by Don Freeman. All children attending the event this Saturday will also receive a copy of the book to take home — and is recommended for children ages three to nine years old. SUNDAY JANUARY 23
FARMERS MARKET: On Sunday, grab your produce bag and head to Dupont. The outdoor, year-round market is open from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and accepts NAP/EBT, P-EBT, WIC and Senior FMNP checks. Fruits and veggies currently in season include apples, broccoli, and turnips (and you can find corresponding recipes online). (Dupont Circle; 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.)
ICE SKATING: End your weekend on the ice. On Sunday, Cameron Run Regional Park will be hosting timed entry to their ice rink (with skate rentals included). Children are invited to join, but please note that anyone under the age of seven must be accompanied by a guardian over the age of sixteen. YAPPY HOUR: On Sunday, head to Wunder Garten for some time dedicated to the pups.
