FRIDAY JANUARY 28

SONGBYRD: On Friday, check out Songbyrd’s new location by joining in on their free Candy Flip Power Hour Party. Starting at 8:00 p.m, the music house will host two 90’s “music video power hours” (a drinking game set to the playlist). Participation in the game is optional, but dancing is encouraged for everyone. (Songbyrd; 8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.; FREE)

BETTY WHITE: Spend your weekend doing, what else, celebrating Betty White! Friday is the second-to-last day of Zenith Gallery’s exhibit Betty White Unites!  In Celebration of her 100th Birthday!. The exhibit features at least twenty artists and their works inspired by the late, undisputed icon. White would have turned 100 years old earlier this month. SISTINE CHAPEL: Kick off the weekend by getting up close to one of the world’s most famous paintings. Starting this Friday, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition will be in Tyson’s Corner, where residents can explore a life-sized copy of the artwork, “brought to life using a special printing technique that emulates the look and feel of the original paintings.” (Tyson Corner Center; 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; $19+ per adult, $13.30+ per child)

W.A.M.: It stands for “Women. Artists. Masters.” — and it’s the name artists Debra Keirce, Carrie Waller, and Maria Bennett Hock have given themselves. On Saturday, explore the W.A.M.’s work in their new exhibit, The Big and Small of It in Strathmore’s Historic Mansion. Expect pieces of art small enough to fit in your palm and paintings that are larger-than-life. (Strathmore; 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.; FREE)

SATURDAY JANUARY 29

STORY HOUR: Brews (for 21+) and books (for everyone). This Saturday, City-State Brewing is hosting children’s book author Tami Lewis Brown for a book reading and conversation. The event will feature optional flights and drinks for adults — and house made, kid-friendly concoctions for the younger set. (City-State Brewing; 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; FREE)

ART CONVERSATION: On Saturday, the D.C. Public Library will be hosting the online event Maker Talk: Laser Cut Quilts with Tighe Flanagan. Flanagan is “a DC-based quilter who combines his background in Middle Eastern art and visual design into stunning, geometrically complex quilts.” Please note that space is limited; ASL and captioning will be provided. YES, AND: Join Rails Comedy this weekend as they host their inaugural Sketch & Improv show at the DC Arts Center. The black box show will feature “1 sketch team, 1 improv team, and 1 film team, to put on an hour and a half of magical comedic entertainment.” (DC Arts Center (DCAC); 7:00 p.m. doors, 7:30 p.m. show; $10+)

SLOW-MOTION FUNK: This Saturday, head to a pop-up live D.J. set headlined by “Synthwave tastemaker and  ‘slow-motion funk’ master DJ Com Truise. The event will also feature Leftwing: Kody, Jeff Rick, and LED installations by Diod. (A.i. at 2101 New York Ave; 10:00 p.m. – 3:00 a.m.;  $20+)

VIOLIN PERFORMANCE: On Saturday, head to the Music Center at Strathmore for a performance of Grammy Award-winner Nicola Benedetti as she performs “Wynton Marsalis’ Violin Concerto in D Major, a work written specially for her.” The evening will also include a world premiere by composer and sound artist Angélica Castelló and Saint-Saëns’ “Organ” Symphony.(Music Center at Strathmore; 8:00 p.m.; $45.00+)

GOATS: Close out your weekend by attending an art class with a herd of your favorite goats. The four-legged friends (from Walnut Creek Farms) will be visiting Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington  “to provide inspiration, pets, cuddles, snuggles, and love.” All painting and art supplies are included, and the class will be taught by “goatist” Shoshana Weissmann.
