The National Zoo will close tomorrow due to a bout of snow expected to fall across the region Friday night.
All other Smithsonians will open at noon. (Friendly reminder: Even though you can’t see him IRL — Xaio Qi Ji’s wintery mischief can be streamed for all to see on the Panda Cam).
Update: Our @NationalZoo is closed tomorrow, Jan. 29. All D.C.-area Smithsonian museums scheduled to be open will do so at noon. https://t.co/bLqdlI2HB3 https://t.co/CYCCec9DUg

Friday’s snow marks the latest instance of wintery weather in an already snowy January for D.C. The immediate D.C. area is predicted to get between one to three inches of accumulation Friday night. Patchy snow and light flurries started late morning and into the afternoon, but a steady snowfall beginning around 5 p.m. is likely to cause some accumulation, according to Capital Weather Gang, just in time for the evening commute.
2:50p: FAT snowflakes are falling around the DMV but w/ these temps nothing to worry about … yet. Concern continues to be as we get into the evening hours as snow continues or even intensifies some as temps fall back. pic.twitter.com/kTniX8aHWh

If Friday’s forecast sticks (unlike the last chance of snow that ended up just being dreary rain), it would be the region’s fourth snowfall in January. So far this year, D.C. has received 12.1 inches of snow — the most recorded since the January 2016 Snowzilla.
