The Metropolitan Police Department have arrested two 16-year-old boys in connection with  bomb threats at D.C. public and charter schools on Wednesday.  Eight D.C. public and charter schools were evacuated due to bomb threats on Wednesday, according to police.

The first teen arrested is from the Southeast D.C. area, and was charged with making terroristic threats in connection to multiple bomb threats from Wednesday.  An MPD spokesperson said police have not yet determined whether he was responsible for all eight threats.

The second teen arrested, from Northwest D.C., was also charged with making terroristic threats in connection to the bomb threat at  at Kipp DC College Preparatory on Wednesday.  In a tweet, MPD says they continue “to investigate these incidents with our federal partners.”

Ron Brown High School, Dunbar High School, Roosevelt High School, Idea Charter School, Seed Charter School, and KIPP DC Charter School, were all evacuated, an MPD spokesperson said. McKinley Tech High School also received a threat, according to MPD. An additional threat was also directed towards Friendship Public Charter School, where school was not in session at the time. By mid-afternoon Wednesday, D.C. police reported that each campus had been cleared, and there was no hazardous material found.

The bomb threats come a day after Dunbar High School students, staff, and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who was visiting the school, were evacuated from the building after an apparent bomb threat.

This post was updated to reflect that a teenager had been arrested in connection with multiple bomb threats, all schools have been cleared by MPD, and to add that McKinley Tech High School and Friendship Public Charter School also received threats.

It was updated subsequently with the addition of the second arrest.
