CATCH ME: If you can. It’s the opening night of Arena Stage’s Catch Me If You Can — the musical based on the 2002 Steven Spielberg movie by the same name. The show, Tony-winning for its Broadway run, follows the character Frank Abagnale Jr. as he impersonates everything from an airline pilot to a lawyer to a doctor. IRL OR URL DANCE: Start your weekend by attending a K-Pop-inspired dance class with CityDance. The workshop will be hosted by Kaitlin Madzelan and is available in-person in Friendship Heights — or live streamed in the comfort of your home. CONCERT: This Friday, the Folger Consort is hosting “The Viennese School: Music from the Court of Maximilian I.” The performance will feature artistic directors Robert Eisenstein and Christopher Kendall and composer/arranger David Froom. DANCE WORKOUT: This weekend, get moving with a dance class at metrobar DC. “VXN” is a local dance fitness class that leads participants in movement with tailored choreography and music. INDIGENOUS ART: On Saturday, the House of Sweden is opening their latest exhibit, Arctic Highways. The collection includes work from twelve Indigenous artists (nine Sami artists from Scandinavia and three from North America) who explore what it means to live without borders. PITCH A MOVIE: Head to City-State Brewing for a live comedy set. In this show, performers have to end their set by pitching a movie based on their own joke. Rumor has it a director from Hollywood will attend for the judging. The show is hosted by the Midnight Gardeners League — self-described as the District’s only comedy secret society. CONTEMPORARY LATIN JAZZ: On Saturday, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Taisha Estrada is performing at the Workhouse Arts Center in Alexandria. Raised on plena and salsa music, Estrada combines R&B and pop in her performance. You may also know her from when she placed second at the Blues Alley’s Ella Fitzgerald vocal competition — or during her residency at the Strathmore. BOOK TALK: End your weekend by attending a virtual book talk with Politics & Prose. This Sunday, the bookstore is hosting author Carole Emberton in conversation with LaKisha Michelle Simmons as they discuss Emberton’s new book: To Walk About in Freedom: The Long Emancipation of Priscilla Joyner. Born into slavery, Joyner became an adult post-emancipation, and lived in the age of the Jim Crow South and segregation. (Virtual; 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.; FREE)
YER A WIZARD: It’s game time. On Sunday, the Washington Wizards are facing off against the Indiana Pacers at Capital One Arena. This will be their last home game until they come back to town mid-month to challenge the Detroit Pistons.
