FIRE BEER: To celebrate the release of their new beer, DC Brau is hosting a “Burning of the Bock Legislator Release Party” this Friday. Brewmaster Jeff Hancock will host the German ritual where a hot fire poker is submerged in a pint of beer to give it a caramelized and smoky taste. BBQ TRUCK: On Friday, the Silver & Son’s BBQ Food truck will be in Silver Spring. The Jewish- and Mediterranean- inspired eatery travels across the region, serving up pastrami, brisket, potatoes laced with schmaltz, and more. SATURDAY MARCH 12

PLANT POP-UP: This weekend, Grounded is bringing a plant pop-up to Georgetown. Starting at 11:00 a.m. the locally owned plant store is setting up shop at Anthropologie with existing and new arrivals. Shoppers can expect 10 inch, 12 inch, and 14 inch plants — just in time for spring. (Anthropologie Georgetown; 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.; various prices)

GAY MEN’S CHORUS: On Saturday, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will hold two performances of “Brand New Day.” The concert is inspired by the song “The Human Heart” and celebrates acceptance from chosen families. ASL interpretation will be available at the 3:00 p.m. showing. (Lincoln Theatre; 3:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m. show; $25+)

GREEK TO ME: It’s the opening day of the Traveling Players’ new festival of three Greek plays — or what they’re calling “the original March Madness.” The show features adaptations that focus on unexpected or lesser-explored aspects of classic myths. Shows include Ariadne’s Thread: The Adventures of Theseus and the Minotaur (in this version, Ariadne has a duty to save the Minotaur); The Odyssey (which also incorporates Penelope’s story of waiting a decade for her husband’s return); and Hecuba (the story of how the women of Troy moved on the day after the Trojan War). UKRAINIAN MUSIC: On Saturday, Gerdan — the Ukrainian duo Solomia Gorokhivska and Andrei Pidkivka — are performing on Millenium Stage South at the Kennedy Center. The concert will explore traditional Ukrainian music starting at noon — and the performance can be watched both in-person and live-streamed. (Virtual OR at the Kennedy Center; 12:00 p.m.; FREE)

SPRING EQUINOX MARKET: On Saturday, celebrate the Spring Equinox at the Norooz Market, a festival dedicated to Persian New Year. The event will feature local businesses and artisans from across the District, including Kuzeh Pottery, Kicheko Goods, and Petal DC. The acclaimed Silk Road Dance Company will also perform. ATHLEISURE DAY: On Sunday, Glamourina — the locally owned athleisure company for women of color — is hosting “The Melanin Launch” to celebrate their new Melanin collection. The event includes a mocktail hour starting a 1:00 p.m., a boxing workout by BOOMBOX co-founder Angela Jennings, and a market to try out the new goods for yourselves.
