The RAMMY Awards, the D.C. region’s annual restaurant industry awards, are back for 2022 with plans to once again hold the event in person. It brings back some of the categories that had gone by the wayside during the pandemic, and follows an in-person event in September for the 2021 awards and a virtual RAMMYs in 2020.
Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington, the region’s restaurant industry trade association, announced the nominees for this year’s awards program Tuesday night. Categories that were set aside during the pandemic, such as “Formal Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year” and “Best New Restaurant,” are back, along with a requirement that any nominee in that category be a member of the restaurant trade association.
Other RAMMY Awards categories that were newly formed to reflect the way locals ate and drank during the pandemic including “Hottest Sandwich Spot,” and “Outstanding Pop-up Concept,” remain. The association has trimmed some of those from the list, however; gone are “Most Innovative To-Go Packaging,” “Technology Trailblazer,” and even “Good Neighbor.”
As in the past, a panel of local judges chooses the winners in many of the categories, but several others are chosen by a public vote. Those include the categories “Best Neighborhood Gathering Place” and “Best Brunch.” The awards ceremony and gala will be held July 24 at the Washington Convention Center.
