OUTDOOR CONCERT: Head to the Gudelsky Gazebo at Strathmore for their Live from the Lawn series. Enjoy the weather while listening to DuPont Brass, a soulful brass ensemble from D.C. The group got its start when its members, then-Howard University students, were busking in Metro stations to raise money for tuition, but is now a professional nine-piece ensemble. PEACE FILM: The focus of this month’s microcinema series at Rhizome DC is a special program featuring Peace Letters to Ukraine, curated by Wilfried Agricola de Cologne of The New Museum of Networked Art. JAPANESE STAR FESTIVAL: Join Hillwood Estate for Tanabata, or the Japanese Star Festival, which celebrates the legend of the separated lovers, weaver princess and herder Orihime and Hikoboshi. Relax in Hillwood’s Japanese gardens and listen to music performed by the Washington Toho Koto Society. Attendees can purchase refreshments for a picnic, and decorate paper lanterns, write special wishes to hang on bamboo in a traditional custom, or learn calligraphy and origami making.
