This weekend, as temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees or higher with the heat index, the District is extending hours at 11 outdoor pools across all eight wards. Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a heat emergency through Monday.

While most pools typically operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends, from Friday through Sunday select locations will remain open until 8 p.m.

The pools with extended hours include:

  • Ward 1: Banneker Pool
  • Ward 2: Volta Park Pool
  • Ward 3: Hearst Pool
  • Ward 4: Upshur Pool
  • Ward 5: Langdon Park Pool and Harry Thomas Sr. Pool
  • Ward 6: Randall Pool
  • Ward 7: Ridge Road Pool and Rosedale Pool
  • Ward 8: Fort Stanton Pool and Oxon Run Pool

Locals looking to stay out even later can take advantage of the Department of Parks and Recreation’s late-night pool parties on Fridays through August. This Friday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., the carnival-style “Late Night Drip” event will take place at Woody Ward Recreation Center in Southeast D.C.

D.C. has a number of cooling centers in each ward where residents can find relief from the heat, including libraries, recreation centers, low-barrier shelters, and spray parks. Additionally, District residents can access all nine indoor pools for free.
