To date, DC Health has administered 36,000 doses of the vaccine. Case rates of monkeypox in the District have dropped to no more than one case per day since peaking in July, though there has been a delay in reporting since late September. There have been 498 cumulative cases as of Oct. 4, according to DC Health.
In D.C., the monkeypox vaccine is available to all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender who have had multiple sexual partners in in the past two weeks, as well as sex workers, people who work at places where sexual activity occurs, and people who are living with HIV/AIDS or have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection in the past three months.
Access to clinics in most of the rest of the region, meanwhile, will remain the same. But in Fairfax County, the health department is transitioning to a new scheduling system for monkeypox vaccine appointments. Starting Oct. 17, people can make appointments using the CDC’s Vaccine Administration Management System. Those who want to get vaccinated before Oct. 17 can complete an online interest form.
Appointments in Fairfax County are available at the following locations:
- Fairfax County Government Center, 12000 Government Center Parkway
- Hyland South County Government Center, Mt. Vernon District Office, 8350 Richmond Highway, Alexandria
- Health Department Health Clinics in Fairfax, Annandale, Springfield and Herndon-Reston
In Virginia, the monkeypox vaccine is available to people with a known exposure to someone with monkeypox, in addition to all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender who have had multiple sexual partners in in the past two weeks, as well as sex workers, people who work at places where sexual activity occurs, and people who are living with HIV/AIDS or have been diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection in the past three months.
