The Smithsonian National Zoo’s annual Zoolights attraction is coming out of a two-year pandemic hibernation later this month.
The holiday tradition will start on Nov. 25, and run for six weeks from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Week 1: Nov. 25, 26, 27
Week 2: Dec. 2, 3 , 4
Week 3: Dec. 9, 10, 11
Week 4&5: Dec. 16-23
Week 6: Dec. 26-30
This year, the zoo will require a special pass (separate from the normal Zoo entry pass) to enter. Parking will cost $30, and daytime parking tickets cannot be transferred for Zoolights parking.
It’s the first time the Zoo is holding the glowy attraction, beloved by toddlers and first-daters, since the pandemic shut down Smithsonians more than two years ago. Washingtonians may remember 2020’s ZooLights Express, the 24-foot flatbed truck covered in LED lights and one lone person dressed up in a panda suit that the Zoo sent to drive around D.C.’s streets at normal speeds in lieu of the traditional event. COVID concerns caused the Zoo to skip Zoolights in 2021 as well.
