That’s right, DMV Black Restaurant Week is back. The event, which began Sunday and runs through Nov. 13, is a homegrown effort to boost Black-owned businesses in the restaurant world and larger hospitality industry.
DMV Black Restaurant Week launched in 2018 thanks to founders Furard Tate, owner of Inspired Hospitality; Dr. Tucker-Oluwole, who serves as director of the global hospitality leadership master’s program at Georgetown University; and Andra “AJ” Johnson, currently a Managing Partner at Union Market-area cocktail bar Serenata.
DMV Black Restaurant Week is one of two restaurant weeks in the area focused on Black-owned businesses. The other, DC Black Restaurant Week in July, is part of the Houston-based Black Restaurant Weeks LLC organization, which hosts the event in various cities throughout the year
The locally-run DMV Black Restaurant Week is designed to be more inclusive than other Restaurant Week promotions to allow for a wider range of business models to participate. So while there are certainly options for multi-course, prix-fixe lunches or dinners, patrons may also see specials at Black-owned catering companies and food trucks, direct-to-consumer retailers, and Black-owned food-related services, among others.
Many of the participants don’t have their exact special listed on the site, so be sure to check with each operator to learn more about their deals and hours before venturing out. Ready to go? Here are some more tips and picks for navigating DMV Black Restaurant Week.

However you don’t have to be a member to enjoy their DMV Black Restaurant Week deal at The H Restaurant inside the club. Just call 202-301-5074 or email concierge.dc@thegatheringspot.club to make a reservation and receive an appetizer, entree and dessert for $35.
