You can sit out the Black Friday madness and still get ahead on your holiday shopping by checking out Small Business Saturday events around the area. Here are some pop-up markets and specials events happening around the D.C. region this year.

Old Town Alexandria 
Various locations

You can browse the more than 65 independent shops in Old Town (according to Oprah Daily, one of the Most Magical Christmas Towns Across The World) while enjoying free hot cider and local coffee. With its own spin on Black Friday, Alexandria is hosting Plaid Friday on Nov. 25, which will feature the town’s small businesses.

Port City Brewing Company Holiday Maker’s Market 
3950 Wheeler Ave, Alexandria VA 2022304

In partnership with Made in ALX, Port City Brewing Company will stage a pop-up market showcasing local artisans. More than 30 artists will display their works in the Port City parking lot from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

2022 Black-owned Small Business Expo
The Show Place Arena, 14900 Pennsylvania Avenue, Upper Marlboro

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., peruse goods and foods from Black business owners, or attend entrepreneurial workshops led by community leaders. Entry is free, but a VIP ticket gets you a free lunch, reserved parking, and a coupon to use for all products. The proceeds of ticket sales will go to the St. Charles Bears Youth Organization.

Shop and Play Market at Metrobar
640 Rhode Island Avenue NE Washington D.C. 20002

District Motherhued, a nonprofit dedicated to millennial mothers of color in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia will welcome more than 25 local Black-owned businesses for the fourth annual market dedicated to the innovativeness and entrepreneurial spirit of Black and Brown businesses. Parents can sip on spiked drinks and nibble s’mores while children enjoy storytime with Black Santa, and food trucks will be around to feed the whole family.

Shop Small Saturday Market at Compass Rose 
1328 14th Street NW, #100 Washington DC 20005 

Enjoy food and beverages from local bars and browse vendors like Kuzeh Pottery, Little Leaf, The Outrage, Fast Snail, and Zawadi. The market runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meme’s Popups Small Business Saturday 
4th Street Southeast Washington, DC 20032

Enjoy food from Black-owned restaurants and clothing and jewelry from other Black-owned entrepreneurs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Donations will also be collected for St. Thomas More Academy’s new playground.

The Black Market in Brookland 
3726 10th Street NE, Washington DC 20018 

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., enjoy a range of jewelry, clothing, and food from local vendors and small Black-owned businesses in the D.C. region.

The Market at the Bank
6950 Carrol Ave Takoma Park, MD

The Takoma Park Bank will have a series of pop-up markets every weekend starting this Saturday through mid-December. Check out what businesses will be showcased in the Small Business Saturday market here.

Shop Made In DC 
Various locations and times

A series of pop-ups at the Georgetown, Union Market, Wharf, and Old Town locations will feature goods from different local makers.

Barracks Row Specials 
Various locations 

Businesses along Barracks Row Main Street — from shops to restaurants to galleries — will be offering specials this Small Business Saturday. At The Brig enjoy $6 drinks and tots, or buy a book at Little District Books for a chance to win a curated surprise.
