Peak bloom may be over, but it’s not too late to have a headache driving in the nation’s capital while gazing at falling cherry blossom petals!

This weekend is the annual Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run and 5K Run/Walk.

The 5K Run/Walk, presented by REI Co-op, is on Saturday, and starts at Freedom Plaza at 9:15 a.m. Runners must be finished or off the course no later than 10:30 a.m.

Registration for the 5K is closed, and runners are not allowed to switch from the 10 mile run to the 5K.

The 10 mile run is on Sunday, starting at the Washington Monument grounds at 7:30 a.m. for most runners, and at 7:18 a.m. for “Elite Women” runners. Runners must take no longer than two hours and 20 minutes to finish the 10 mile course.

The following streets are closed to traffic for the 5k event on Saturday, April 1, from about 2 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

• Pennsylvania Avenue from 9^th Street to 14^th Street, NW
• 13^th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
• 12^th Street from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
• 11^th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
• 10^th Street from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW

And these streets will be closed to traffic on Saturday from 8:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.:

• Pennsylvania Avenue from 3^rd Street to 9^th Street, NW
• 9^th Street from E Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
• D Street from 8^th Street to 9^th Street, NW
• 7^th Street from Indiana Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
• 6^th Street from C Street to Constitution Avenue, NW
• Constitution Avenue from 3^rd Street to 7^th Street, NW
• 3^rd Street from C Street, NW to Virginia Avenue, SW
• Independence Avenue from Washington Avenue to 7^th Street, SW
• 4^th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Virginia Avenue, SW
• D Street from 3^rd Street to 4^th Street, SW
• 6^th Street from Independence Avenue to Maryland Avenue, SW

The following streets will be blocked off for parking on Saturday from 2 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.:

• Pennsylvania Avenue from 9^th Street to 14^th Street, NW
• 13^th Street from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

And the following streets will be blocked off to parking from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday:

• Pennsylvania Avenue from 3^rd Street to 9^th Street, NW
• 3^rd Street from C Street, NW to D Street, SW
• Independence Avenue from 3^rd Street to 7^th Street, SW
• 4^th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to D Street, SW
• D Street from 3^rd Street to 4^th Street, SW

On Sunday, the following streets will be closed to vehicles from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.:

• Maine Avenue from 395/695 to East Basin Drive

This 2022 map shows the road closures for the 10 miler, and the route hasn’t changed in years, according to a spokesperson.
