Eighteen D.C. recreation centers will be open for a lot longer beginning Monday, April 10. The new weekday hours will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Saturday hours double – they are now 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
These four community centers will also extend their hours to 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays: Shepherd Park (7800 14th Street NW), Marvin Gaye (15 61st Street NE), Guy Mason (3600 Calvert Street NW), and the Arboretum (2412 Rand Place NE).
Mayor Muriel Bowser and her Department of Parks and Recreation announced the expanded hours in early March. She extended the hours at eight of the city’s most popular centers shortly after.

The Bowser administration expanded the hours so young people have a safe and engaging area to play. The administration also recently made another big change at DPR — last month, the department went from a free-f0r-all sign-ups at its summer camp signs to a lottery-based system.
