Jazz in the Garden, D.C.’s uberpopular summer concert series in the National Gallery of Art’s sculpture garden, is back with a new way to reserve tickets.

Because so many people love the picnic-blanket-clad-sangria-filled Friday night concerts, tickets this summer will be doled out in a free lottery system. Every concert will have its own lottery, which will open the week prior on Monday, and close on Friday at noon. The winners will be alerted the following Monday by 10 a.m. You can reserve up to four free passes. (Babies under two don’t need a ticket.) If you don’t get selected for a lottery, additional passes (first-come, first-served) are available at the entrance gates starting at 5 p.m. on the day of the concert. The music begins at 6:00 p.m.

The series will kick off on May 19 this year, with a blues performance from Martha Redbone Roots Project, and go through August 4. The lottery for the first show will open May 8 at 10 a.m. and close May 12 at noon. Winners will be announced May 15 at 10 a.m.

Other performances slated throughout the summer include Northern Virginia Caribbean group Tobago Bay, Indigenous fusion quartet DDAT, and a special Juneteenth celebration by the Muneer Nasser Quintet. You can see a full line-up of performers here.
