5 Easy Ways to be Part of Reuse DC

1. Search the Reuse Directory
Reuse DC features a map-based Reuse Directory. Finding donation centers, repair shops, or second-hand stores has never been easier. Whether you want to donate clothing, get a musical instrument repaired, or find the perfect second-hand bookcase, the Reuse Directory is a great place to start!

See your favorite place missing from the directory? Just let us know by completing this form.

2. Exchange with Neighbors
Have an item to get rid of that still works? You can gift it to a neighbor! You’ll not only brighten someone’s day, but you’ll also be doing your part to prevent items in working condition from going into the landfill. There are many websites that help facilitate exchanging items. Learn more about them on Reuse DC’s Exchange with Neighbors page.

3. Participate in Food Recovery
Wasted food is an economic, environmental, and societal loss. In the United States, an estimated 30% of food is wasted by retailers and consumers. On Reuse DC’s Food Recovery page, you can discover the many ways to be part of the solution. Learn how to reduce food waste or sign up to become a food rescuer.

4. Learn About Reuse Programs
Through reusing, donating, and repairing your household items, you can save money and reduce the impact of creating new items and making waste. The Department of Energy and Environment has several programs to achieve Sustainable DC’s goal of facilitating local reuse and recovery of materials to capture their economic and social value.
