BEFORE GENTRIFICATION: Tanya Maria Golash-Boza will present her latest book, Before Gentrification: The Creation of DC’s Racial Wealth Gap, which dives into redlining and disinvestment in the District in the last century. CONTEMPORARY ART AWARDS: The Trawick Prize: Bethesda Contemporary Art Awards exhibit opens today. It will feature the artwork of eight finalists through Oct. 1, and all featured artists are from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. The competition started in 2003 and has exhibited artwork of more than 200 regional artists since its founding. (Bethesda Urban Partnership Gallery B; FREE)

SHABBAT COOKING: Adeena Sussman, a renowned cookbook author, will be presenting her new book Shabbat: Recipes and Rituals from My Table to Yours.
