Veterans Day is this Saturday, but D.C. is celebrating through the weekend with an inaugural National Veterans Parade on Sunday, Nov. 12. Starting at noon, floats, marching bands, veterans groups, and specialty vehicles will begin heading down Constitution Avenue, starting at the National Archives.
The parade, hosted by the National Veterans Parade Foundation, will be one of several free ways to honor the nation’s veterans in the capital. Unfortunately, a parade does make driving and parking in the area even more cumbersome than usual, as several streets will be blocked off to vehicles through the afternoon. So if you were planning to drive in the city Sunday, you’ll probably want to plan your routes to avoid the parade. And if you were planning to visit museums or the National Mall on Sunday, you might want to ditch your car altogether.
Drivers should keep an eye out Sunday for streets marked as “Emergency No Parking.” The Metropolitan Police Department says that from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., drivers will not be allowed to park along these streets:
- Constitution Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue to 15th Street, NW
- 6th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
- 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
- 9th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
- 10th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
- 12th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Madison Drive, NW
- 14th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
Drivers may also not enter these streets from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m.:

- 7th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to Independence Avenue, SW
- 10th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW

The following streets are also shut off to vehicle traffic from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- 9th Street from Pennsylvania Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
