“The outreach effort seeks to create a more robust national collection of objects and stories” of the 9/11 attacks and their aftermath, says the Smithsonian.

The closure comes less than a week after the 18-year anniversary of the attack.

It may not give us the complexity we want; but it delivers the catharsis we need.

The collection will also include 1,000 digital photographs, manuscript materials, logbooks and indexes, and more.

Memorials and events include walks, a moment of silence, a rally on the National Mall, and more.

At the center was the Million American March Against Fear, better known as the Million Muslim March, a sparsely attended rally that was part peace rally, part 9/11 truther platform with a dash of activist Cornel West. One speaker, Ruby Al-sous, began her speech by responding to a man screaming, “No Sharia law!”
