Smith Point and Shoot
Rusty, it was your wingman post. A DCist reader led us to this post over at why.i.hate.dc, where the site’s author discusses the local blog D.C. Late Night Shots and wonders why he’s been picking up traffic from the “closed social network,” most of which is, as you might guess, inaccessible to those who haven’t been invited. DCist, however, was able to dig up one of the highly exclusive invites (note: we’re not the first…

Metrobus Pays $120/Hour
Got your attention, did we? A DCist operative tells us that Metro employees greeted her with flyers this morning as she emerged from the Silver Spring Metro station — flyers that promised cold, hard cash in exchange for opinions on Metrobus. Simply by calling 1-800-383-2343 1-800-383-2324 (extension 106) interested riders can see if they qualify to take a 30 minute survey on how to improve bus transit. Survey takers are given $60 for their trouble….

Package at Judiciary Square Deemed Safe
A DCist reader has told us that a bomb threat has been reported near the Judiciary Square Metro station. The D.C. government office building located at 441 4th Street NW is closed to incoming and outgoing traffic, and WMATA is reporting that the 4th Street/Courthouse Metro entrance is likewise closed. We’ll report on details as they emerge; please leave your own updates in the comments. Update: Here’s the current NBC 4 story. The problem appears…

Borf Supporters Start Blogging
With the news last week that uber-tagger Borf — born John Tsombikos of McLean, Virginia — was to serve one month in jail, it was only a matter of time before his supporters crawled back out of the woodwork to express their allegiance to him and his art. And that they have, launching their own blog called “Borf Support.” To date there really isn’t a whole lot of meat to the site, but they do…

Fire at Chloe (Updated)
We’re hearing from several sources that parts of 18th Street in Adams Morgan were shut down yesterday while fire crews responded to an emergency at Chloe, a restaurant and lounge located near the intersection with Adams Mill Road. The establishment, which is owned along with nearby Saki by Alireza “Haji” Hajaligholi, has apparently sustained significant damage on its first and second floors. DCist will provide updates as new information arises. Update: Fritz at the GOGblog…

Club Red Closing?
Is the ultra-hip, quasi exclusive and not very well marked dance club Red closing its doors for good? It seems that way. A DCist reader tipped us off to the fact that, after nine years, this is the last weekend for the late-night club. According to this flyer, hipsters with an itch to get down have one more chance to dance late into the night this weekend. Located just below the yellow Fudruckers sign at…

Previously on DCist
On Friday, DCist readers engaged in some relatively civil back and forth over the much publicized America Supports You Freedom Walk, an event organized by the Department of Defense to honor the service of the country’s countless men and women in uniform and to memorialize the death of those who lost their lives four years ago at the Pentagon. Taking place today, thousands of people, pictured above, gathered at the Pentagon and followed a…

More Capitol Lounge Photos
As we reported earlier today the Pennsylvania Avenue bar Capitol Lounge suffered a severe fire late last night. The news caused a flurry of emails as members of the Capitol Hill community swapped photos and the news. A DCist reader and self-admitted frequent visitor to the bar has sent us dozens of exclusive photos taken earlier today, including a number of the fire damage to the bar’s decorations. The images above are details from…

Breaking News: Capitol Lounge Burns Down
DCist is hearing unsubstantiated reports Capitol Hill institution the Capitol Lounge suffered from a serious fire last night. We are currently attempting to get a hold of the D.C. Fire Department for confirmation, and will alert DCist readers with the full story when it becomes available. If readers have further information, please leave them in the comments. UPDATE: Thanks to the commenters, who note that NBC4 is confirming the fire. The station reports that the…

Judy Came from Ohio, She’s a Scientologist
Thanks to DCeiver, who points out some Scientologist wackiness that doesn’t involve Tom Cruise. It seems those crazy Dianetics believers are at it again, this time causing a ruckus at a local print shop. The issue? Apparently, they thought the staff was holding on to fliers for a special event. Copies of the flier had apparently been leaked to the public, and the angry Scientologists — clearly unable to control MEST — sent a lawyer…
