Your Monday Metro Map Mashup
It’s become chic to take the transit map of one’s home metropolis and anagram the station names. Boing Boing has a remarkable collection of maps that have received the treatment, and when we learned of the craze, we wanted to jump on the bandwagon and give D.C. its own personal mixup. Just in time did we learn that the job had already been done. We like the results, although we are disappointed in the…

Fans can start their vigil now, as Entertainment Weekly’s Popwatch commenters discuss their favorite episodes. It all starts at 8 p.m. Oh, and if…

Finding First Night Fun
From DCist contributor Amadie Hart What to do on New Year’s Eve can be a yearly dilemmaone that rarely presents an easy answer. Restaurants book up early and often forgo their usual fare for a more creative prix fixe option. Bars and clubs are expensive, crowded, and can be difficult to get into. The big parties are also expensive, and feature notoriously long lines for the bar. So, what about taking a break from all…

Changes Afoot in Clarendon
(From DCist contributor Amadie Hart) Clarendon, a historic shopping hub in Arlington County that was devastated by the construction associated with the construction of Metro’s Orange Line in the 1970s, has undergone a wholesale transformation in the last decade. Small storefront retail and ethnic restaurants have been giving way to larger, chain developments. In recent years, stores such as Crate and Barrel, The Pottery Barn, the Container Store, and Williams Sonoma, and restaurants such as…

Trees and Lights and Bonfires, Oh My
(From DCist contributor Amadie Hart) Christmas tree lots, nurseries, and farms all around the area were buzzing yesterday with shoppers looking for just the right piece of greenery to festoon with lights and ornaments. The holiday season is here, and area residents are rushing out to make sure they aren’t left with a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Whether you cut your own tree, adopt a live tree, or drag it home from the corner…
