Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

The nicer the weather gets, the busier we get across the Ist-A-Verse. But we like being busy. Here’s a peek at what we’ve been up to since last week! Chicagoist had an interview with Audrey Niffenegger, whose popular book, The Time Traveler’s Wife, was based in their fine city. They also had a heated discussion about Rush Limbaugh’s controversial Barack Obama parody, talked about whether Uncle Julio’s Hacienda is a good place to get…

Elsewhere in the Ist-a-verse

We -ists are an eclectic bunch, but there’s a couple of things we all love: famous people, social causes, and wacky local facts. Join us as we starf**k, get virtuous, and learn across the -ist network! Austinist starts us off right by filling the famous person quota by interviewing Lewis Black, covers the social cause with a non-profit car sharing company, and gives us more wacky local facts than we can handle with Austin by…

Morning Roundup: Butterstick Bash Edition

Tonight. 7 p.m. Chief Ike’s in Adams Morgan. Butterstick Bash. We’re still waiting for responses to our little Butterstick quiz. If you answer the three questions and email them to butterstickcontest (at) gmail (dot) com, you’ll walk away with a panda prize-pack. Either way, stop on by tonight and see us. Butterstick would want it that way. Back-Slapping by District Officials for July 4 Evacuation: Though last week’s rains proved that the District evacuation…

Previously on DCist

There isn’t much to say about this week other than it was Stapptastic. We did, though, catch up with Vegetate, check out Stars at Black Cat, introduce our first Metro Map Mashup, and welcome Anna Nicole Smith to D.C. We covered a labor dispute at WJLA, reviewed Afterwar, interviewed Hera McLeod of “The Amazing Race,” and worked out with Condi. We visited Chawky Frenn’s studio, analyzed the slow-bursting real estate bubble, reported on a…

DCist Interview: Hera McLeod

Tonight, the ninth season of “The Amazing Race” takes off from the mile-high city of Denver. Our obsession with the show is well-documented, so we wanted to catch up with one of the former contestants to learn about her experience on the race, get the dirt on the other racers that season, and solicit advice for future would-be contestants. Hera McLeod was a contestant during the sixth season of the show. She ran the race…

Making the Race Really Amazing

Our love for The Amazing Race: Family Edition may not come as news to regular readers. We were quite disappointed that the Black family from Woodbridge, VA was the first team to be eliminated this season, though we believe that they were much too functional and supportive of each other for reality TV success. However, we are particularly looking forward to tonight’s episode, as the nine remaining families race through our backyard. An AOL preview…

Amazing Race Picks Local Family

It’s time again to indulge in our (possibly unhealthy) love for reality TV. In addition to the many fictional portrayals of the city ready to hit prime time this fall, a local family from Woodbridge, VA will be competing in the Emmy winning CBS series, The Amazing Race, the Family Edition. Last season featured a retired Easton, Maryland couple, Meredith & Gretchen, who did the region proud by being only slightly whiny and performing reasonably…

Amazing Race Alights in Alexandria

With season eight of CBS’s Emmy winning reality TV hit, “The Amazing Race,” reportedly in production, the show’s producers are hosting an open casting call at Jack Taylor’s Alexandria Toyota (3750 Jefferson Davis Highway) for the ninth season on July 10 at noon. The show’s website contains the application form and a lengthy list of procedures and requirements for potential contestants. Teams of two (or, in the case of the upcoming eighth season, four) race…
