After Uber’s overwhelming email, phone and Twitter campaign, the D.C. Council today passed an amendment that effectively permits the company to continue operating in D.C. with no change to the way it does business.
At a breakfast meeting with her colleagues today, Councilmember Mary Cheh (D-Ward 3) reversed her plans to introduce an amendment that would effectively bring the upscale livery service Uber into compliance with D.C. regulations.

The amendment, offered by Sen. Bob Bennett (R-Utah), was killed after the Senate voted 59-36 to deny a motion to waive the parliamentarian ruling that it was out of order. The vote came sometime after 1 a.m….
