Orange and ANC Commissioner Alex Padro are two new candidates hoping to win the seat David Grosso is vacating.

Unlike his last bid, he’s now seeking an at-large seat as an independent.

The ANC commissioner raised over $12,000 in small donation in a little over two months.

Setting aside two At-Large seats for minority parties was a means hatched by Congress to ensure a diversity of viewpoints on the D.C. Council.

Public Citizen filed a complaint on Tuesday with the D.C. Office of Campaign Finance.

“There’s a lot of energy for change, with the Trump administration coming in, a lot of energy around resistance, for transformative solutions to issues that D.C. is facing.”

“I’m happy, if you’re happy. We all should be happy. Just be happy,” the At-large councilmember said on his last day in elected office.

“You have my continued commitment to push for integrity and accountability, and I will keep looking for opportunities to serve our city – whether in or out of public office.”

Interim Councilmember Anita Bonds (D-At Large) handily won the April 23 Special Election, beating five competitors in a low-turnout affair.
