D.C. Launches Pilot Program To Give Cash To New Parents And Pregnant People — With No Strings Attached
One-hundred thirty-two new parents and pregnant people in D.C.’s three lowest-income wards will get $900 a month for a year to spend as they wish.
Historically the District has had an infant mortality rate higher than the national average, and the boxes could help.

Infant Mortality Rate Still Decreasing in D.C.
There’s good news out of Mayor Vince Gray’s office today: The infant mortality rate in D.C. is continuing to drop.
The Virginia 529 College Savings Plan will give away 20 accounts worth $529 to infant’s born on May 29 at or near 5:29 p.m.
Over the next decade, residents of wards 1 and 2 are going to be real busy procreating, producing kids at a level higher than any other part of the city.
